__I do not need surgery, how frequently do I need see my doctor?
When an aortic aneurysm is first detected, it is typically not possible to determine the rate of growth. We recommend repeating the imaging study at 6 months. In patients without Marfan's syndrome or acute aortitis, if the aneurysm is unchanged in size after a repeat study, we recommend repeating imaging with CT or MRI one time per year. If should there be a significant increase in aortic size from one study to the next, the interval between studies should be decreased to 3 or 6 months (depending on the size of the aneurysm).
Larger aneurysms should be followed more closely because the rate of growth is influenced by the rate of growth. While aneurysms less than 5 cm grow on an average 0.2 cm/yr, those larger than 5 cm grow by 0.6 cm/yr.
